Higher Education Institutions, Zakat Fund Sign MoU

ABU DHABI - The Highr education institutions play a vital role in empowering local community through their support for humanitarian and charitable works and social solidarity, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said.
According to Emirates News Agency (WAM), Sheikh Nahyan made his remarks following a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the three higher education providers: UAE University, Zayed University and Higher Colleges of Technology, and the Zakat Fund.
''The MoU signifies the State's care and support for social and family solidarity,'' Sheikh Nahyan added, lauding such a humanitarian collaboration as an ''honourable model'' for supporting one of the main zakat programmes and targets.
Minister of Justice and Chairman of Zakat Fund Dr. Hadef bin Juan Al Dhaheri was present when Secretary General of Zakat Fund Abdullah Bin Aqeeda Al Muhairi, Vice Chancellor of UAE University Dr. Abdullah Al-Khanbashi, Vice President of Zayed University Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim and Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) Dr. Tayeb Kamali inked the MoU.
For the UAE University, the MoU will facilitate admission of students of low-income families and provide basic needs of university students with special needs.
