Inaugurating a Korean Language Lab at UJ

AMMAN - The Acting President, Prof. Hani Dmour today inaugurated in the presence of the Ambassador of Korea to Jordan, a Korean Language Laboratory, according to University of Jordan.

The Lab is considered an important tool to enable students who are studying Korean language to improve their language skills.

Dmour valued the existing cooperation relations between Jordan and Korea and the Korean Embassy's support for the Korean language programs.

Teaching foreign languages at the University is considered UJ's window to the outside world, Dmour pointed out.

Dmour stressed that language opens prospects for identification and access to the traditions and cultures of different people.

The Korean Ambassador to Jordan Shin Hyun-suk treasured efforts made by the University to contribute to the development of friendly relations between Jordan and Korea.

The Jordanian-Korean relations have made important strides, especially in the educational and business fields, Ambassador Shin Hyun-suk said.

Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Prof. Zahra Awad shed light on the laboratory which was completed with the support of the Korean International Cooperation Agency, the Korean Embassy in Amman and LG Electronics.

According to Awad, the Lab includes a Korean museum that contains significant information about the customs, traditions and cultures of the Korean people, in addition to Korean customs and publications related to Korean civilization during different periods.

The faculty has 9 foreign languages programs and has the intention to expand in teaching Asian languages and currently studies establishing graduate programs in foreign languages, Dean Awad noted.

The inauguration ceremony included Korean poetry readings and a Fine Korean fashion show by a number of students at the Korean language program.
