Establishing a Legal Clinic at University of Jordan

AMMAN - Quoting the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the Faculty of Law at the University of Jordan (UJ) on Tuesday marked the set up of a “Legal Clinic” as part of the Rule of Law Initiative applied by the Bar Association and funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to improve legal education programs in Jordan, according to University of Jordan press release.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Tarek Hammoury said in the presence of UJ president Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh, the clinic will provide practical opportunities for legal learning and skill-building on the grounds, taking into account that interaction with the audience is of the main components of clinical legal education activities.

Director of the Office of Democracy and Governance at the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Stephen Taravekaa, referred to the importance of the practice in legal education, calling for the expansion of practical activities of legal education since it occupies a great interest in the world and expands students’ opportunities to find work and achieve success after graduation.

Balqees  Ma’ani, a student at the Faculty of Law, said the legal clinic grants her and her colleagues the opportunity to delve into a unique experience, and allows for the development of interview skills with real clients and follow up their cases with the concerned authorities.

Moreover, the Faculty of Law will offer the clinic program in the first semester of the next academic year. The Clinic will provide modern tools for students to interact in research and learning activities.
