Abu-Ghazaleh Chairs AROQA's General Annual Meeting Special to TAG Educa News Agency

BEIRUT – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of the Arab Organization for Quality Assurance in Education (AROQA) headed the General Annual meeting of AROQA at the American University in Beirut with the participation of AROQA members representing various educational institutions in the Arab countries. 

In the opening of the meeting, HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh thanked HE Mr. Boutros Harb, the Lebanese Minister of Telecommunication for his patronage of the 8th Annual Conference of AROQA and the 2nd International platform on integrating Arab e-Infrastructures. He also thanked the Secretary General of the Arab League, HE Mr. Ahmed Abul Gheit for his instructions, guidance, and nomination of HE Mr. Yasser Abdel-Moneim - Minister Plenipotentiary -to participate in the meetings. 

After duly considering the various items on the agenda, the meeting resolves decisions in regard to AROQA’s operations and management to continue to support quality assurance and accreditation in education across the Arab region. The general annual meeting hears and approves the accounts of the financial statement for the accounting year ending on December 31, 2015 as well as the its budget and plan for 2017 which includes standards and criteria of quality in education and accreditation.  

The general meeting re-elects HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh as the president of AROQA for guidance and wisdom to build and disseminate a culture of quality in education across the Arab region through organizing annual conference and workshops and maintaining dialogue among educational institutions at the regional level. It was also resolved that AROQA joins the Association of Arab e-universities, which has recently been established under the umbrella of the League of Arab States. AROQA has set the initial quality frameworks and accreditation standards of eLearning and online education. The objective is to ensure the provision and opportunity for substantial educational outcomes through active participation of teaching and learning in accordance with international best practices. 

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh demonstrated the need for supporting initiatives that aim at improving quality of education, and conducting more studies and research related to quality, accreditation as well as to support AROQA’s continuing efforts and sustainability due to the importance and need of its mission in the field of education.
