AMMAN – Under the patronage of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, and with the presence of Mr. Roger Davies, UNRWA Director of Operations in Jordan, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) organized a workshop for principals of UNRWA schools to discuss activities for integrating media education into the education process.

The workshop comes in support of UNRWA teachers' initiative to provide students with the skills of dealing with information, and to improve the education process.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed pride in the cooperation with UNRWA, and expressed his willingness to cooperate in all fields, particularly in the provision of training on a media basics program.  He noted that TAG-Org offers specialized training programs to those wishing to learn more about the various fields of media including, writing, radio and television, or community media.

He stressed the importance of cooperation in the field of e-literacy, clarifying that when UNRWA's decision to make e-learning compulsory is made, each UNRWA school will be provided with an e-class which will be equipped with computers and free Internet service.

He added that the possibility of linking UNRWA's schools with the global electronic library network will be considered.

For his part, Mr. Davies expressed pride in working with Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, the role model of a successful refugee who had worked tirelessly and overcame all difficulties until he became the owner of one of the biggest and most successful organizations in the world.

He also stressed the importance of cooperation with TAG-Org in the fields of e-Library and schools' mini-Parliaments.

The media and IT education initiative covers nine UNRWA schools across Jordan, and benefits over 300 students; it is among the three pillars of the e-Library program that was launched by UNRWA in Jordan in September 2012, as a part of the UNRWA's educational reform strategy.

Media and IT education is a set of education strategies in which students learn how to deal with and access media and sources of information so that they become able to understand, criticize, and participate in the media and information content.

The project aims at linking all the academic libraries in UNRWA’s education institutions, providing each of them with a separate e-index to provide a database and sources of information to UNRWA students and faculty, enhancing constant and scientific research, and developing students' skills in research, investigation, and following-up.
