AMMAN – Under the patronage of HE Mr. Bilal Al Bdour, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Jordan, and HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition (Midad) was inaugurated in the presence of the Guest of Honor HE Mr. Nabih Shuqum, Minister of Culture, as well as HE Mr. Giovanni Brauzzi, Italian Ambassador to Jordan, HE Mr. Shuichi Sakurai, Japanese Ambassador to Jordan in addition to Mr. Faisal Al Malik, Charge d' Affaires at the UAE Embassy.

The two-day exhibition, organized at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum (TAGKF) premises in Shmeisani, aims at supporting the Jordanian participating artists in the exhibition who are specialized in the Arabic calligraphy.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated that the exhibition was held as a joint initiative by the UAE Embassy in Amman and TAGKF to shed light on this kind of genuine art to protect it and save it from extinction.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh noted that this initiative is a part of many initiatives launched by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization since its establishment in 1972, which strive to protect the Arabic language, calling for promoting and preserving the Arabic calligraphy as an Islamic art.

He stressed the need to support a generation of distinguished and talented calligraphers who would contribute to the writing of the Holy Quran for future generations, affirming the importance of teaching students Arabic calligraphy writing at various stages of their education.

For his part, Ambassador Al Bdour said that cultural expressions are countless, and, “the Arabic calligraphy as one of the Arabic cultural expressions is a language that reaches beholders without the need for any explanation or interpretation.

He added that while other arts had received much attention, this particular one, calligraphy, which represents a remarkable Islamic art product, did not receive the attention it deserves.

Al Bdour stated that the support of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization to this Arabic calligraphy exhibition exemplifies the integration between social and economic work.

He also said that we should not look at the artistic work or calligraphy drawing as a pure visual creation but as an investment since many paintings are being sold for double their actual value. He urged all concerned parties to pay more attention to the Arabic calligraphy.
