The campaign, launched during the graduation ceremony of ‘Awraq for Mobile Journalism’ project, funded by the Community Media Network and supported by the European Union, with the aim to empower women in the tourism sector and introduce them to available economic opportunities in this field.

TAG.Global contributed to the project by supporting people in disadvantaged areas through specialized training courses in collaboration with Awraq Company in 2019, offering specialized training to 15 young men and women in Aqaba on mobile journalism technologies tackling various issues related to women, tourism, environment and economy in the region.

The project included different workshops most notably a workshop on the importance of environment, tourism and economy at ASEZA in addition to pertinent applicable laws. On behalf of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the Executive Director of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Society (TAG-KS), Mr. Loay Abu-Osbeh awarded participants with laptop devices to assist them in applying what they learned to contribute to the success of the media campaign.

For her part, Executive Manager of Awraq Company, Ms. Zeina Hamdan, expressed the company’s pride in the partnership with TAG.Global for its important role in supporting the media campaign and project.

Concerning the campaign, she referred to a study carried out by Awraq in cooperation with the Middle East Center for Media and Political Studies which indicated that there are great opportunities for women in the tourism sector in Aqaba especially for marketing their handicrafts and food products in addition to professions related to scuba diving sport. Hamdan concluded by affirming that the campaign aims to make training in tourism sector a key platform for finding job opportunities to reduce unemployment and poverty.
