‘Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum’ Organizes Awareness Seminar on Jordan Breast Cancer Program

AMMAN – Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum (TAG-KF), a member of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), in cooperation with King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP) has organized an awareness session entitled ‘An image for life...get tested’, as part of the 7th Arab Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for the year 2022.

The session was held in accordance with TAG-KF’s efforts in supporting the JBCP’s activities conducted in conjunction with the breast cancer awareness campaign; an annual international health campaign organized every October to raise awareness on the importance of early detection.

Speakers in the seminar included: Ms. Reem Al-Ajlouni, JBCP director and Dr. Maisam Akroush, a member of the Mediterranean Task Force for Cancer Control; in addition to inspiring breast cancer survivors; Suzan Barbour, Samah Al Natour,  Razan Al Rusan, and Nicole Shaheen.

TAG.Global Education and Youth Advisor and TAG-KF Executive Director, Dr. Fadi Daoud, expressed the Forum’s pride in hosting this motivational seminar, stating that TAG-KF supports these efforts as part of its national and social responsibility. He noted that the Forum posts awareness messages concerning the campaign on TAG.Global’s social media outlets.

During the event, Dr. Al-Ajlouni pointed out that more than 1200 Jordanian women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year according to official statistics. This affirms the importance of raising awareness of early detection and following a healthy lifestyle. She further indicated that each citizen plays an important role in fighting cancer and preventing its spread.

Additionally, Dr. Al-Ajlouni explained that the Jordan Breast Cancer Program is a nationwide program, led and supported by the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center and the Ministry of Health. It seeks to provide a supportive environment for early detection and scanning of breast cancer, as the most common type of cancer around the globe. She affirmed that early detection saves lives, where the survival rate in cases of early detection has increased to more than 95 percent, she added.

In this regard, she commended TAG-KF for supporting and hosting campaigns of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program annually, noting that these seminars raise society's awareness and highlight the importance of early detection which is the most important means of prevention and treatment.

For her part, Dr. Akroush emphasized that men are more likely to get colon cancer whereas females get breast cancer, referring to figures showing an increase in the incidences of both annually.

She went on to say that colorectal cancer is associated with inheritance and that full recovery from it could be achieved by early precaution, especially since the possibility of getting cancer increases for those over the age of 60.

At the end of the seminar, honorary shields were given to the speakers in recognition of their role and efforts in raising awareness in the community.

It is worth mentioning that the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP) was established in 2007 as a nationwide program under the guidance of Jordan’s Ministry of Health. Its mission has evolved from reducing mortality rates associated with breast cancer and diagnosing the disease in its advanced stages (stages 3 and 4), to diagnosing it in its early stages (stages 0 to 2) where the chances of recovery are higher and treatment costs are lower.
